Kurs/Prosjekt: IMT1006 - Physical and Tactile Prototyping, NTNU
Skapere: Christopher M. M. Cox
Materialer: LED, lightweight cardboard, glue, electrical wire, electrical duck tape, paint, paper and nine-volt battery
Teknologi: LED, nine-volt battery, glue gun, wallpaper knife, soldering
Beskrivelse: The main goal for this workshop project is to show different kinds of textile materials or other types of materials as a shell to glow by using LED lights and buttons. The NTNU logo boxes are glowing building boxes that will light up when you put them together.
Målgruppe: MakerSpace, workshop, students, kids, families, the common people
Interaksjonen: The user interact with these building LED glowing boxes by stacking them together either horizontal or vertical so that they will light up. How many that will ble lighting up is depended on how many boxes are connected by touching each other from the main light source which is a black NTNU logo box.

Step-123:
First you start with finding the right cardboard you want. It can either be lightweight or regular cardboard. For this project it was used lightweight. When you have found your right material you want to use. Then you continue on to cutting them up. Make sure you use a wallpaper knife since it is easer to cut out your square shaped box that way. To make the cutting process easer you can cut the cardboard into strips and then cut out the square from there on. After you feel like you have enough square shaped cardboard you can proceed onto the next step which will be to glue the square shaped cardboard together. For this project it was used 10 boxes which means 60 square shaped cardboard pieces.
First you start with heating up the glue gun and when it is warm enough. Then you start by gluing six square shaped cardboard pieces together until you have glued all the pieces you have made out of cardboard. As mentioned above in the previous step that this project used 60 pieces of square shaped cardboard which then got turned into 10 cardboard boxes which will be filled with there each LED light.
After you have done all of your cardboard cutting and glued together your cardboard pieces into boxes then it is time for start soldering LED lights. You start by choose out which LED lights you want to use but for this project there was used one white LED light and 9 blue LED lights. But as mentioned you can choose whatever LED light you want to use since the «sky is the limit». When you have chosen your LED lights you then start soldering each LED lights one by one with a resistor attached to each of the LED light. It is important to make sure that the resistor is placed onto the positive side of the LED light. After you have attached a resistor to your LED light you then connect a electrical wire on to each end of your LED light. Where one will be placed onto the LED light itself and the other one onto the resistor and also make sure that you have cut up the electrical wire before soldering it on. When you are all done with soldering together your LED light with a electrical wire you then duck tape over the soldering part with an electrical duck tape.
The next step will be to make hole in your boxes where to LED lights will be sticking out and where to wires will come out from but if you don't want to make this part more difficult you can jump straight to this part right after you have cut up your cardboard square shaped pieces and then move onto soldering LED lights before gluing the pieces together. Since the LED lights will be duck taped on the inside of the box so that's why it may be easier to just skip straight to this part and then retrace the other steps. But for this project I didn't do that and ended up with more work then needed. Duck tape each wire on to each side and bend the «legs» of the LED light to each side and the bottom. So that the LED light will be sitting tight enough after you have duck taped each wire to each side and at the bottom.
The last that is left now is to paint the LED light boxes with some paint or any other material you want you boxes to have like with for example with different kinds of textile materials. Since remember that the «sky is the limit». But for this project it was used paint as an ecstatic decoration option. You start with making sure that you have one main box that will be standing out since that will be your main light source box for the other boxes to connect to when they receive there touching button mechanic function but sadly this project will not touch on that topic. After you have chosen you main box you can either decorate the other boxes separately with there own style or make them all look the same. Again this project had the other boxes with the same color and motive which was blue and the main box painted black. The motive for this project was NTNU but it is important to fined your own style. After all the decoration is done congratulation you have completed this «step-by-step» guide!
